When it comes to God remembering His own words, He doesn't have to depend on the Cliffs Notes.
CBN.com -
It's a familiar scenario: Your friend reminds you of something you said that
you absolutely don't remember saying. Maybe you broke a promise you don't remember
making. Maybe you said you would do something and you forgot.
Whatever the case, you might find yourself being accused of lying, of not living
up to your promises, or of not keeping your end of the deal. Some days it doesn't
seem fair that you are to blame for the oversight. After all, how can you possibly
remember everything you said or did? Surely there will be times when you will
go against your word whether you mean to or not, right?
This is not the case with God. The Creator of the universe has spoken thousands
upon thousands of words; hundreds upon hundreds of promises. We can revisit
those words daily in that 1000-plus-page document we know as the Bible. And
He can't go against any of it. He has to remember to keep all of those promises
He made to those who follow Him, and He does this because He is God and He is
the God who can not lie.
Wow! Every thought, every deed, every insight into His being is in that one
book.
Now imagine that you are asked to tell your story in one detailed document.
You must provide a detailed family genealogy; record all of the key events in
your life, personal and global, from both a historical and prophetic vantage
point; describe in detail the impact you have had on all the people you have
met, down to the detailed conversations you had; and mention all those people
who will be in your will and what each one will get because they knew you.
Oh, and did I mention that you won't be writing the whole document yourself?
Your story is going to be farmed out to a bunch of other people who seem to
know you really well. They are going to jot down some things, too, but ultimately
you will be the one responsible for keeping this document accurate. If someone
tests you or accuses you of wrongdoing or some discrepancy, you had better know
exactly what you did and said to present the truth to win your case, if it comes
to that. Add onto that the fact that your words must be life changing, something
deeper than Pulitzer-prize-winning quality.
Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed? That is to be expected, because we can not
do it. It is too great a task.
But God did. He presented His whole story -- the Gospel message -- largely
entrusting the hearts and minds of his disciples to take good notes on His account.
And what we have is an accurate, life-changing story and a God who remembers
and reminds us of all that He said and did and will do.
That, my friends, is a miracle!
My prayer is that we will not take His words for granted. Consider what efforts
He went to on your behalf to present Himself in His Word, and give Him the honor
and respect He deserves today.
